Introduction:
Technology is transforming every aspect of our lives, from the way we communicate to how we create and experience art. Advances in AI, digital, and interactive systems are constantly pushing creative boundaries.
Beyond Interface and Prompt is a forthcoming juried multimedia art exhibition that explores how technology transcends its role as a mere tool to become a dynamic medium in contemporary art. We invite artists across all disciplines to consider how digital interfaces, AI, interactive systems, and etc. can reshape creative expression and audience perception. The exhibition aims to showcase works that move beyond traditional boundaries — beyond the screen interface and beyond the simple text prompt — to create innovative and experimental experiences. In this show, technology is not just about using new tools, but about rethinking the very fabric of artmaking.
While we welcome submissions in all mediums, works that integrate technology in concept or execution will be given priority in the jury’s selection and up to $500 in creative awards.
We encourage entries that engage with mediums such as tech-driven installation, interactivity, mixed-reality, AI generative art, 3D printing, audio-visual environments, or any form of artistic experimentation where technology plays a central role.
The exhibition takes place at the non-profit organization – Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, aka WAH Center, a 19th-century landmark that has witnessed the evolution of art and technology across generations. By embracing new media and forward-thinking approaches, the WAH Center merges its historic legacy with art’s innovative future.
Eligibility
- Open to all U.S. based artists working in any medium.
- All mediums are welcome, but experimental and tech-driven works—incorporating any tech elements like electronics, coding, or interactivity—are strongly encouraged. While technology is not mandatory, tech-driven work will receive priority in the jury’s selection and awards. AI-generated works are also welcome.
- All delivery and installation of artwork are the artist’s responsibility. We only accept shipments for simpler pieces; complex installations must be set up on-site by the artist. Artists are required to bring in clear technical instruction. We provide 20-inch digital screens for video works. If your concept requires specific equipment, please bring your own.
- Artwork submissions must be original works. If the work is a collaboration, please list all members and ensure you have their consent to submit.

- Submission Fee: $25 for submission
All fees will be used exclusively for the exhibition’s operational expenses.

Mail a check to: WAH Center, 135 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211 - Technical Requirements: For works involving technology or special equipment, clearly specify your needs in the entry form (e.g., projectors, computers, sensors, space requirements). Standard gallery equipment (monitors, projectors, internet access) can be provided for the exhibition, but any unique hardware or software should be noted in your submission.

- Notification of Acceptance: Mon. April 7, 2025 – All artists will be contacted via email regarding the status of their submission. Accepted artists will receive further instructions for delivery or installation of their work.
Awards and Recognition
Selected artists for the exhibition are eligible for multiple awards celebrating creativity, experimentation, and excellence. Works that innovatively use technology will receive special consideration for awards. The jury seeks outstanding, tech-driven pieces that push boundaries.
All awards will be decided by the jury panel. Winners will be announced at the exhibition opening reception, and all participating artists will benefit from exposure through the exhibition’s publicity and catalog.
Awards include:
- Excellence in Merging Art & Tech: Awarded to the submission that best exemplifies innovative use of technology as a medium. The winner will receive a cash prize of $500 and a feature in the exhibition catalog highlighting their work’s conceptual and technical contributions.
- Creative Innovation: Awarded to a work that shows outstanding creativity and risk-taking: Cash prize: $500
- Emerging Talent: Awarded to an emerging artist (within the first five years of their practice) who demonstrates exceptional promise in integrating technology with art. Cash prize: $500
- Honorable Mentions: Additional notable works may receive honorable mentions and will be highlighted during the exhibition opening (non-monetary recognition).
Curatorial Team & Award Jury Panel
Our jurors will review all submissions and curate a selection of works that best embody the exhibition’s theme. Note: In line with the exhibition’s focus, the jury will especially look for innovative uses of technology in the submissions.
A panel of jurors will evaluate all submissions. Each juror brings a unique perspective on the intersection of art and technology:
Yuko Nii – A Japanese artist and philanthropist. With a MFA from Pratt Institute in 1967, Yuko Nii’s career spans painting, printmaking, design, literature, and more. She is the founder and the artistic director of the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center (WAH Center) in Brooklyn, NY established in 1996 as a non-profit arts organization. Nii has curated numerous fine art shows (5 or 6 shows each year) and also performance programs of dance, music and theater in her past 27 years. Nii also launched the Yuko Nii Foundation in 2008 to preserve art and historical artifacts, including the WAH Center’s landmark building.
Tairan Hao – Tairan Hao is a New York–based artist with a BFA from California College of the Arts and an MFA from University of Pennsylvania. His multimedia practice—spanning animation, video, sculpture, and interactive installations—examines virtual-real intersections and technology’s cultural impact. Exhibited at Beijing’s Today Art Museum, Wuhan Biennale 2022, EFA project space and beyond, Hao also runs TAIRANHAO Studio and holds over 20 patents on new-media art, pushing tech boundaries in contemporary art.
Cassidy (Yitong) Chen – is a New York–based curator and multimedia artist whose practice—spanning sculpture, installations, and video—reimagines everyday objects to challenge unspoken expectations. In addition to her artistic work, she has curated group exhibitions that expose the creative potential hidden in routine experiences. Recent curatorial projects include collaborations with the American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Free Speech TV at BRIC, and A Space Gallery. Chen earned her master’s degree at NYU’s Tisch Interactive Telecommunications Program and holds a BFA from Alfred University.

All works are for sale. The WAH Center’s commission is 40% and artist receives 60% of the sales price listed above. But when the Yuko Nii Foundation buys work, the WAH Center and the Artist split 50/50 sales price. Although the WAH Center will take all regular and customary precautions against loss or damage of the works lent by the artist(s), the WAH Center cannot be held responsible for loss or damage of those works. If the artist chooses to maintain his or her insurance, the WAH Center must be supplied with a Certificate of Insurance naming the WAH Center as an additional assured.
