Defne Halman, Turkish-American actress and Prof. Talat Halman, First Cultural Minister of Turkey will present this enlightening program featuring readings of Rumi’s mystical poetry

Exhibit: November 2006
Curated by Ayse Turgut, Continuity and Change: Islamic Tradition in Contemporary Art will feature over 10 established and emerging artists with Islamic backgrounds originally from countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Saudia Arabia, Lebanon, Palestine and Turkey. Participating artists will include Mumtaz Hussein, Saira Wasim, Afruz Amighi, Hend-Al Mansour, Filiz Cicek, Soody Sharifi, Helen Zughaib and others. Internationally recognized special guest artists will include Amin Gulgee, Siah Armajani and Samia Halaby. Themes explored will include the use of calligraphy and other Islamic artistic traditions in contemporary art, as well as gender, politics and spirituality.
